Building a Culture That Powers Success at Advanced Cleaning Services

At Advanced Cleaning Services, people are at the heart of everything we do. Over the past 30 years, we’ve grown from a small team into a national leader in the food facility cleaning sector, with 10 departments across South Africa and into African markets. That growth has only been possible because of our commitment to fostering a workplace where employees feel supported, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Creating a positive and collaborative work environment

At Advanced Cleaning Services, building a great work culture starts with communication and alignment at every level.

On our sites, regular Invocom meetings, sometimes weekly, sometimes daily, keep our teams engaged and informed. These conversations are key to understanding what’s happening on the ground, identifying concerns early, and maintaining morale.

“Our people’s mindset is everything,” says Felicity Khumalo, HR Director at ACS. “If we notice that morale is low, we step in, investigate, and make changes. It’s about creating an environment where teams feel heard and supported.”

Empowering employees to grow their careers

At Advanced Cleaning Services, career growth isn’t limited to those with formal qualifications. While studying hospitality, food safety, or health and safety can open doors, the most important qualities are a willingness to learn and a commitment to growth.

“Many of our leaders started out as cleaners and worked their way up to supervisors or site managers,” Felicity explains. “We’re intentional about promoting from within and providing opportunities for advancement.”

The company also offers learnership programs for both employed and unemployed individuals. These initiatives help staff gain certifications while gaining valuable experience, ensuring that ACS teams are equipped with the skills they need to excel.

A future built on growth and opportunity

As we expand into new territories and contracts, we continue to prioritise people development. In the past six months alone, we have taken on two new contracts every month and created over 300 new jobs.

Beyond hiring, Advanced Cleaning Services supports employees’ families by accepting CVs from staff members’ children who are seeking employment, giving them opportunities to build their own careers.

“Our success comes from the people who work here,” Felicity says. “When our staff thrive, the business thrives, and so do our clients.”

At Advanced Cleaning Services, growth and opportunity go hand in hand. As we continue to expand, we remain committed to creating workplaces where every employee can succeed.
